It felt more like winter, but the Hope College women's golf team won the Trine Spring Classic on Friday in Angola, Indiana.
The Flying Dutch shot a team score of 322 to take first place in the 13-team event that was shortened to one round because of playing conditions.
Sophomore Nicole Meyer of Brighton, Michigan (Brighton HS) earned medalist honors among 70 golfers by shooting a 7-over-par 79 at Zollner Golf Course.
Meyer won a first-place tiebreaker over two teammates who also shot 79s: senior Morgan Leep of Caledonia, Michigan (Grand Rapids South Christian HS) and junior Britni Gielow of Norton Shores, Michigan (Mona Shores HS).
Sophomore Megan Wierenga of Byron Center, Michigan (South Christian HS) chipped in an 85. She tied for 15th.
Sophomore Megan Klintworth of Jackson, Michigan (Hanover-Horton HS) tied for 22nd with an 87.
Hope finished 14 strokes ahead of second-place Saint Mary's College.
The Flying Dutch return to action on Tuesday, April 12 when they host Calvin, North Central, Illinois and Wheaton, Illinois at The Ravines. Start time is 1 p.m.
