Hope Baseball Loses Doubleheader At Adrian

The Hope College baseball team holds a narrow lead for second place in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association standings after dropping two games at league champion Adrian on Friday.

The Flying Dutchmen (21-15 overall) are 16-9 in MIAA play after losses of 4-2 and 10-5 for a half-game lead over third-place Alma and a two-game lead over third-place Kalamazoo.

Hope hosts Adrian for a 1 p.m. Senior Day doubleheader on Saturday, May 7. Alma plays last-place Olivet, while Kalamazoo is facing sixth-place Calvin.

The Flying Dutchmen are scheduled to complete a suspended game with Albion on Monday, May 9 if necessary.

In Game 1, leftfielder Ryan Konkle of Marshall, Michigan (Marshall HS) pushed his school-record RBI total of 51 with a first-inning sacrifice fly. Catcher Nick Glowacki of Goodrich, Michigan (Goodrich HS) added a sixth-inning RBI on a fielder's choice.

Adrian (28-9, 23-3 MIAA) struck for a four-run fifth against losing pitcher Jake Chipka of Waterville, Ohio (Anthony Wayne HS). Chipka (4-5) allowed eight hits and struck out two in a complete game.

In Game 2, Konkle went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI to put his batting average at .484.

First baseman Landon Brower of Holland, Michigan (Holland Christian HS) contributed three RBI.

Adrian charged to an 8-2 lead after three innings.
