Erin Herrmann and the Hope College women's cross country team both ran away with victories on Saturday at the Ferris State Ray Helsing Invitational in Big Rapids, Michigan.

The Flying Dutch finished first out of five teams with a score of 31 points. Ferris State was runner-up with 57 points.

Herrmann topped a field of 85 NCAA Division II and III and community college runners at Katke Golf Course by clocking a 5K time of 18 minutes, 25.8 seconds. The senior from Wheaton, Illinois (Wheaton-Warrenville South HS) finished 16 seconds ahead of the nearest competitor.

Senior Emily Joosse of Chillicothe, Ohio (Zane Trace) took fourth overall with a run of 19:13.6.

Senior Jessica Gaines of Sterling Heights, Michigan (Utica Academy) and junior Rachael Webb of Grandville, Michigan (Grandville) crossed the finish line in succession. Gaines came in eighth at 19:22.4, while Webb was ninth at 19:23.8.

Sophomore Avery Lowe of North Muskegon, Michigan (North Muskegon) rounded out Hope's scoring by placing 12th in 19:40.8.

Three other Hope runners finished in the Top 20: junior Alexis Guttilla of St. Charles, Illinois (Westminster Christian) in 14th at 19:55.4, freshman Chelsea Miskelley of Holland, Michigan (Black River) in 18th at 20:10.5 and sophomore Emily Hamilton of Naperville, Illinois (North) in 20th at 20:32.2.

Hope returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 24 at the MIAA Jamboree at Pine River Country Club in Alma.
