Box Score The one-two combination of Allie Wittenbach and Erin Brophy found their feet quickly against Trine and made the Hope College women's soccer team's debut a successful one.
The two paired up two goals in the first 7 ½ minutes to spark the Flying Dutch to a 2-1 win Monday at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.
Hope improved to 3-1-1 overall while remaining tied atop the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association standings with a 2-0-1 league record with Kalamazoo.
Wittenbach's second consecutive multi-goal game gave the junior from Ada, Michigan (Forest Hills Central HS) four goals on the season.
She opened the scoring 3:57 into the match off a cross from Brophy, the junior from West Lafayette, Indiana (West Lafayette).
Just 3:34 later, a similar setup from Brophy to Wittenbach put the Flying Dutch ahead 2-0. Brophy's two assists now have her at 12 for her career — 12th all-time among Hope players.
Trine (0-3-2, 0-3-0 MIAA) cut the Flying Dutch lead with 8:26 left in the first half but could not pull closer. Hope dominated play, outshooting the Thunder 33-3.
The Flying Dutch's next match is Thursday, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. against Albion at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.
