Britni Gielow picked up right where she left off for the Hope College women's golf team.
The senior from Norton Shores, Michigan (Mona Shores HS) shared low-round tournament honors with a 5-over-par 77 Friday at the season-opening Carthage Shootout on the Border in Bristol, Wisconsin.
Gielow, an All-American last season, is tied for first with Wisconsin-Whitewater's Kaitlin Bowe in the 88-golfer field. She is pictured at right.
The 36-hole event at Bristol Oaks Golf Club resumes on Saturday, Sept. 3 at 9 a.m. Central.
Hope is six strokes off the lead. Whitewater leads the 16-team tournament with a score of 316. Hope and Carthage are at 322. Wheaton, Illinois is fourth at 335.
Junior Megan Klintworth of Jackson, Michigan (Hanover-Horton) carded an 80 and sits in eighth place.
Senior Megan Wierenga of Byron Center, Michigan (South Christian) is 13th with an 82.
Junior Nicole Meyer of Brighton, Michigan (Brighton) rounded out Hope's scoring with an 18th-place 83.
Senior Dominique Molinaro of Burtchville, Michigan (Port Huron Northern) chipped in 84. Senior Elena Moore of South Lyon, Michigan (East) had a 90.
