The Hope College women's golf team made a second-round charge and nearly overcame Wisconsin-Whitewater before settling for a runner-up finish at the 16-team Carthage Shootout on the Border Saturday in Bristol, Wisconsin.
The Flying Dutch finished one stroke behind Whitewater in the overall standings at the two-day, 36-hole event with a collective score of 646.
Hope shot the lowest second round team score of the day.
Senior Britni Gielow of Norton Shores, Michigan (Mona Shores HS) led the Flying Dutch with a fourth-place effort of 15-over (77-82—159). She placed four shots off the lead.
Junior Nicole Meyer of Brighton, Michigan (Brighton) tied for seventh at 6-over (83-78—161).
Two Flying Dutch tied for 10th: senior Megan Wierenga of Byron Center, Michigan (South Christian) at 82-81—163 and junior Megan Klintworth of Jackson, Michigan (Hanover-Horton at 80-83—163.
Senior Dominique Molinaro of Burtchville, Michigan (Port Huron Northern HS) tied for 24th at 84-87—171.
Hope returns to action on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 9-10 at the Olivet Campbell invitational at The Medalist in Marshall.
