The Detroit Tigers took a moment from their 2017 Winter Caravan stop on Friday, Jan. 20 at Hudsonville Ice Cream to honor former Hope College softball coach Karla Wolters '73.
Wolters, who taught and coached at Hope College for 23 years before retiring in 2010, died on Monday, Nov. 28, 2016. She was 65.
Wolters was a professor emerita of kinesiology and had coached multiple sports across her career, serving as the college's softball coach from 1988 through 2010.
Dan Dickerson, radio voice of the Tigers, presented Karla's husband, Tom Wolters, with a home white Tigers jersey with the name Wolters on the back and the No. 58.
Fifty-eight was chosen to recognize the 58 seasons Wolters coached in five sports during her career at Hope College and Calvin College.
