Erin Herrmann ran away from a field of 26 runners to win the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Emory Invitational on Friday in Atlanta.
The senior from Wheaton, Illinois (Wheaton-Warrenville South HS) posted a first-place time of 10 minutes, 50.20 seconds.
Herrmann helped Hope to a combined men's and women's score of 63 points that was good for second place. Rowan is first with 87. The two-day meet resumes on Saturday.
Sophomore Emily Hamilton of Naperville, Illinois (North) finished runner-up in the 10,000 meters with a time of 37:52.50. Senior Jessica Gaines of Sterling Heights, Michigan (Utica Academy) was sixth at 40:25.77.
The Flying Dutch took sixth in both the distance medley and 4x800 relays.
The distance medley relay of junior Ashley Warner of Spring Lake, Michigan (Spring Lake), freshman Chelsea Miskelley of Holland, Michigan (Black River), freshman Emily Jackson of Grayling, Michigan (Grayling) and junior Alissa Frazee of Watervliet, Michigan (Home School) posted a run of 13:49.78.
The 4x800 relay of freshman Sally Hansma of Jenison, Michigan (Jenison), freshman Hannah Kenny of Grand Haven, Michigan (Grand Haven), freshman Sophia Vander Kooy of Indianapolis, Indiana (Brebeuf Jesuit) and freshman Breanna VanLaan of Lowell, Michigan (Lowell) went 10:02.95.
