Erin Herrmann Runs Nation's Top Steeplechase Time, Meet Record At Emory Invite

Erin Herrmann ran away from a field of 26 runners to win the 3,000-meter steeplechase in record-setting fashion at the Emory Invitational on Friday in Atlanta.

The senior from Wheaton, Illinois (Wheaton-Warrenville South HS) posted a first-place time of 10 minutes, 50.20 seconds.

It is the fastest outdoor time by a NCAA Division III runner this season.

It was also a meet record.

The Flying Dutch finished seventh out of 35 scoring teams at the two-day meet with 44 points. Jacksonville State won with 111.5 points.

On Friday, sophomore Emily Hamilton of Naperville, Illinois (North) finished runner-up in the 10,000 meters with a time of 37:52.50. Senior Jessica Gaines of Sterling Heights, Michigan (Utica Academy) was sixth at 40:25.77.

The Flying Dutch took sixth in both the distance medley and 4x800 relays.

The distance medley relay of junior Ashley Warner of Spring Lake, Michigan (Spring Lake), freshman Chelsea Miskelley of Holland, Michigan (Black River), freshman Emily Jackson of Grayling, Michigan (Grayling) and junior Alissa Frazee of Watervliet, Michigan (Home School) posted a run of 13:49.78.

The 4x800 relay of freshman Sally Hansma of Jenison, Michigan (Jenison), freshman Hannah Kenny of Grand Haven, Michigan (Grand Haven), freshman Sophia Vander Kooy of Indianapolis, Indiana (Brebeuf Jesuit) and freshman Breanna VanLaan of Lowell, Michigan (Lowell) went 10:02.95.

On Saturday, Rachael Webb took third in the 800 meters. The junior from Grand Rapids, Michigan (Grandville HS) recorded a time of 2 minutes, 18.56 seconds.

Avery Lowe came in third in the 5,000-meter seeded race. The sophomore from North Muskegon, Michigan (North Muskegon) clocked a time of 18:22.55. Teammate Alexis Guttilla of St. Charles, Illinois (Westminster Christian) was 12th at 19:11.69.

Freshman Emma Johnson of Wentzville, Missouri (Timberland) cleared 3.07 meters in the pole vault for eighth place (10 feet, 1 inch).

Junior Rachel Satkiewicz of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan (Seaholm) finished 11th in the 400 meters at 49.15 seconds.

Hope's next competition is Friday-Saturday, March 24-25, back in Atlanta at the Emory Classic.
