Nick Holt fired a no-hitter for six innings to help the Hope College baseball team split a makeup doubleheader at Kalamazoo on Tuesday.

The sophomore lefthander from Muskegon, Michigan (Catholic Central HS) settled for a one-hit shutout in an 8-0 Game 1 victory after allowing a leadoff double to Jack Clark in the seventh inning.

The Flying Dutchmen lost the second Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association game 7-5.

Holt (3-2) struck out four while walking two and hitting one batter.

Hope supported Holt, pictured, with a run in the first inning and five more in the second.

First baseman Landon Brower of Holland, Michigan (Holland Christian) delivered a RBI single in the first and a three-run double to cap the second-inning rally. Designated hitter Tanner Gilmore of Murietta, California (Alta Lorna) hit his third home run of the season with a two-run blast in the second.

The Flying Dutchmen could not overcome a 5-1 deficit after two innings in the nightcap. Ian Kobernick's three-run homer in the first sparked Kalamazoo (14-7, 7-5 MIAA).

Rightfielder JP Batts of Spring Lake, Michigan (Spring Lake) went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI to put his batting average at a team-best .479.

Gilmore added two hits and two RBIs.

Hope (13-9 overall) is tied for fourth place in the MIAA standings with Alma. Both teams are 6-6 and trail second-place Kalamazoo and Trine by one game.

The Flying Dutchmen return to action on Thursday, April 13 at home with a 2 p.m. doubleheader against Olivet.
