Women's Lacrosse Edged At Saint Mary's, Will Be No. 3 Seed For MIAA Tournament

The Hope College women's lacrosse team will be the No. 3 seed for next week's Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Tournament after being edged at Saint Mary's 13-11 on Thursday.

Senior Dana Kym of Libertyville, Illinois (Libertyville HS) and sophomore Allison Darnell of Farmington Hills, Michigan (North Farmington) scored three goals apiece to lead the Flying Dutch.

Hope (7-6 overall, 5-2 MIAA) will play at Saint Mary's (9-6, 6-1 MIAA) on Wednesday, May 3 in the MIAA Tournament at a time to be announced. Top-seeded Calvin will host Adrian in the other semifinal.

Senior Alexandra Webb of Woodland Hills, California (Calabasas) chipped in one goal and four assists for the Flying Dutch.

Webb now has a team-leading 17 assists – one more than junior Erin Caton of Rochester Hills, Michigan (Pontiac Notre Dame Prep). Webb and Caton have the most assists in a single-season for a Hope player.

The Flying Dutch opened the second half with consecutive goals from Darnell, Kym and junior Emily Deane of Rochester Hills, Michigan (Rochester Adams) over a five-minute span for an 8-6 lead 5 ½ minutes into the second half.

Saint Mary's, however, responded with the next five goals over the next 14 minutes.

Hope's regular-season finale is Saturday, April 29 against Alma at Van Andel Soccer Stadium. The Senior Day match begins at 1 p.m.
