The Hope College women's golf team put its home-course advantage to use on Friday.
Five rounds in the low 80s at Ravines Golf Club in Saugatuck sparked the Flying Dutch to a winning score of 326 and a three-stroke lead heading into the final round of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's national qualifier.
Play begins in the last round for the 54-hole event at 11 a.m. Saturday. The start time was moved up because of heavy rains forecasted for late in the day.
Hope, the regular-season champion, took a narrow lead over second-place Saint Mary's after heading into the day one stroke behind the Belles.
Saint Mary's shot a 330 on Friday thanks in part to a medalist round of 4-over-par 76 from Taylor Kehoe.
Olivet trails the Flying Dutch by 10 strokes after a second-round 335. Trine is 47 strokes off the lead in fourth place after a 356 Friday.
Juniors Megan Klintworth of Jackson, Michigan (Hanover-Horton HS) and Nicole Meyer of Brighton, Michigan (Brighton) led Hope with 8-over-par 80s.
