In the end, the Hope College women's lacrosse team loved a rainy night.

Senior Dana Kym of Libertyville, Illinois (Libertyville HS), pictured, capped a dramatic second-half comeback for the Flying Dutch at Adrian by scoring with five seconds remaining for an 11-10 victory Wednesday night.

Hope rallied with seven unanswered goals and held the Bulldogs scoreless for the final 27 ½ minutes in a thrilling Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association opener.

The Flying Dutch (3-4 overall) overcame wet playing conditions in a match that was delayed for 15 minutes at the start due to rain.

Senior midfielder Alexandra Webb of Woodland Hills, California (Calabasas) netted five goals to lead Hope. She tops the Flying Dutch with 16 goals this season.

Hope trailed 10-4 after an Adrian goal 2 minutes, 8 seconds into the second half.

Webb and sophomore Madeleine Shupe of Hinsdale, Illinois (Hinsdale Central) ignited the Flying Dutch comeback by producing two goals apiece with Adrian down a player because of penalties.

Shupe tied the score with 1 minute, 34 seconds remaining on an even-strength goal off an assist from junior Erin Caton of Rochester Hills, Michigan (Pontiac Notre Dame Prep).

Hope then pounced on an Adrian miscue as the final seconds in regulation ticked away. Junior Emily Deane of Rochester Hills, Michigan (Adams) set up for Kym for the game-winner — her 15th goal of the season.

Goalie Alexandria Watts of Union, Michigan (Edwardsburg) finished with nine saves for the Flying Dutch.

Hope returns to action on Saturday, April 8 with a 3:30 p.m. match against visiting Kalamazoo at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.
