Alison Rich Charges On Final Day To All-America Honors In Heptathlon

Alison Rich rallied during the final day of competition to become the fifth different Hope College heptathlete to earn All-America honors.

The junior from Haslett, Michigan (Haslett) finished the seven-day, two-day event with 4,574 points that concluded Friday at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships at SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. She came in eighth place.

Rich joins Hope's previous All-America heptathletes Lindsay Lange (2006-2008), Kelly Etheridge (1995), Jane Pearson (2016), and Kara Vande Guchte (2010).

On Friday, Rich rose up five spots in the standings to become an All-American. She was 13th after four events on Thursday.

Rich opened Friday by tying for eighth place in the long jump. She went 5.27 meters (17 feet, 3 ½ inches).

Rich then recorded the fifth-longest javelin toss at 37.23 meters (122 feet, 2 inches).

In the final event, Rich took 12th in the 800 meters by clocking a time of 2 minutes, 28.34 seconds.

"We knew she could have a really strong second day," head coach Kevin Cole said. "She's a very good javelin thrower. There are a lot of points there. She also started with a PR in the long jump that set her up really nice."
