Women's Golf Opens NCAA Division III Championship In 13th Place

Dominique Molinaro and Megan Wierenga both carded 10-over-par 82s to lead the Hope College women's golf team during the first round of the NCAA Division III Championship on Tuesday in Houston, Texas.

The Flying Dutch are 13th out of 22 teams heading into Wednesday's second round of the 72-hole, four-day tournament at Bay Oaks Country Club.

Hope, the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association regular-season and tournament champions, shot a first-round team score of 332.

All five Flying Dutch golfers finished within three strokes of each other.

Molinaro, a senior from Burtchville, Michigan (Port Huron Northern), and Wierenga, a senior from Byron Center, Michigan (South Christian) are tied for 52nd among 116 golfers.

Junior Nicole Meyer of Brighton, Michigan (Brighton) chipped in an 83 and is tied for 59th.

Senior Britni Gielow of Muskegon, Michigan (Mona Shores) and junior Megan Klintworth of Jackson, Michigan (Hanover-Horton) both shot 85s and are tied for 72nd.

Rhodes, Tennessee is in first place with a score of 301.

This is Hope's third consecutive appearance at the national tournament. The Flying Dutch finished a program-best 10th last season.
