Two top-five performances powered the Hope College women's golf team into second place at Day 1 of the 17-team Carthage, Wisconsin Shootout on the Border on Friday.
Freshman Jordyn Rioux of Farmington, Michigan (Livonia Ladywood) and senior Megan Klintworth of Jackson, Michigan (Hanover-Horton) carded rounds of 79 and 80, respectively, to lead the Flying Dutch in their season opener.
Rioux, pictured, is tied for second place — one shot off the individual lead.
Klintworth is in fifth place.
Hope recorded a team score of 335 and trails Wisconsin Whitewater by three strokes.
Freshman Abby Meder of Lansing, Michigan (Catholic Central) fired an 87.
Freshman Carley Laird of Traverse City, Michigan (Central) rounded out Hope's scoring with an 89.
Freshman Vanessa Drust of Constantine, Michigan (Constantine) had a 100.
The two-day, 36-hole tournament at Bristol Oaks Golf Club in Bristol, Wisconsin, concludes on Saturday, September 2.
