Ian Gorgenson And Zach Smith Claim All-Region Honors From D3football

Hope College football players Ian Gorgenson and Zach Smith have received all-region honors from D3football.com.

Both are third-team selections in the North Region.

Gorgenson, pictured left, is a senior defensive tackle from Grand Ledge, Michigan (Lansing Catholic Central HS).

Smith, pictured right, is a junior center from Suttons Bay, Michigan (Suttons Bay).

Gorgenson anchored the top-ranked scoring and rushing defense in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association.

He finished with 38 tackles and two sacks while also occupying multiple blockers on plays and freeing tackling lanes for other Flying Dutchmen.

Smith directed an offensive line that paved the way for 2,691 rushing yards and 1,469 passing yards this season. He did not allow a sack.

The Flying Dutchmen averaged 39.2 points and 416.0 yards of total offense per game en route to an 8-2 overall record.

Hope reached eight wins in consecutive seasons for the first time since 1974-75.

Both Smith and Gorgenson were also All-MIAA First Team selections.
