Baseball's Tanner Gilmore Homers In Victory At Hanover

Box Score 1

Designated hitter Tanner Gilmore slugged a three-run homer, and the Hope College baseball team was on its way to a 12-4 victory against Hanover, Indiana in Game 2 of a season-opening doubleheader Saturday.

The Flying Dutchmen rebounded after a 6-4 loss in Game 1 to garner a split at Grand Park in Westfield, Indiana.

Hope erupted for a five-run bottom of the second that provided more than enough support for winning pitcher Connor Jackson of Rockford, Michigan (Rockford HS).

Jackson allowed three runs and two runs — one earned — in five innings of work during the scheduled nine-inning game.

Gilmore, from Murietta, California (Alta Lorna), pictured, finished with four RBIs after adding a sacrifice fly in the fifth.

Leadoff batter and centerfielder Evan Maday of Grand Rapids, Michigan (East Kentwood) and shortstop Jordon Fairchild of Muskegon, Michigan (Oakridge) each contributed two RBIs.

In Game 1, Hanover (3-7) answered a three-run Hope third with two runs in its half of the inning for a 4-3 lead.

Third baseman Danny Carrasco of Grandville, Michigan (Calvin Christian) delivered a two-run double for the Flying Dutchmen. He finished with three hits.

Rightfielder Mason Opple of Hudsonville, Michigan (Hudsonville) had two hits.
