Baseball Loses Twice At Kalamazoo

The Hope College baseball team dropped a doubleheader at Kalamazoo 7-6 and 17-10 on Tuesday.

The Flying Dutchmen are now 8-14 overall and 6-6 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play. They are in a three-way tie for third place with Alma and Kalamazoo.

In Game 1, Hope yielded a walk-off, two-run single to Zach Prystash with two outs in the seventh. The Flying Dutchmen had taken a 6-5 lead in their half of the inning when a single from leftfielder Nick Lepore of Clinton Township, Michigan (Warren DeLaSalle) plated pinch-runner Jonathan Sojka of Glen Ellyn, Illinois (Glenbard West).

Third baseman Danny Carrasco of Grandville, Michigan (Calvin Christian) went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two runs scored and one RBI for Hope.

Lepore also went 2-for 3.

In Game 2, Kalamazoo broke open a close game scheduled for nine innings with six runs in the fifth, three in the sixth and four in the seventh. Hope scored a run in its half of the inning to pull within a run at 4-3.

Centerfielder Evan Maday of Grand Rapids, Michigan (East Kentwood) and catcher Trace Slancik of Scotts, Michigan (Vicksburg) each had two hits for Hope.
