The Hope College women's lacrosse team secured its spot in the postseason swiftly and decisively on Saturday.

The Flying Dutch scored the first seven goals at Trine and cruised to an 18-5 victory in the regular-season finale.

Hope (8-6 overall) claimed the fourth and final berth in next week's Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Tournament with a 5-3 league record. The Flying Dutch will open at top-seeded Calvin on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

MIAA Tournament Bracket

Against Trine, five different goalscorers propelled Hope to a 7-0 lead in the first 12 minutes of the match. The Flying Dutch went on to lead 13-2 at halftime.

Freshman Jane Ragains of Western Springs, Illinois (Lyons Township), pictured, led Hope with four goals.

Freshmen Rachel Elder and Madison Micho — both of Grand Rapids, Michigan (East Grand Rapids HS) recorded three goals apiece.

Three Flying Dutch players had two goals apiece: junior Allison Darnell of Farmington Hills, Michigan (North Farmington), freshman Carly Pieri of Alto, Michigan (Caledonia), and freshman Paige Wilmer of Columbus, Ohio (Upper Arlington).

Senior Erin Caton of Rochester Hills, Michigan (Pontiac Notre Dame Prep) registered a team-high three assists.

Goalie Laurel Frederickson of Alto, Michigan (Lowell) made seven saves.

A Trine victory would have forced a tiebreaker featuring Hope, Kalamazoo, and Trine to determine the final spot in the MIAA Tournament.
