Women's Basketball Preview: MIAA Tournament Final Vs. Trine

TIPOFF

The Hope College women's basketball team makes its 19th appearance in the MIAA Tournament title game tonight in Angola, Indiana against host Trine University. The eighth-ranked Flying Dutch are seeking their 15th tournament title overall and second in a row as well as an automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Tournament. The field is announced on Monday at 2:30 p.m. on NCAA.com.

HOPE-TRINE REWIND

The Flying Dutch lost both regular-season meetings to the Thunder — falling, 73-61, at DeVos Fieldhouse on January 2 and, 78-72, at the MTI Center on January 26. Francesca Buchanan averaged 18 points per game against Trine, including a season-high of 27 on January 26. Kenedy Schoonveld averaged 16 points per game, including a high of 18 on January 26.

NCAA TOURNAMENT IN MIND

With a win tonight, Hope could clinch its 20th NCAA Tournament appearance and seventh in a row. The Flying Dutch advanced to the national quarterfinals last season before losing to Thomas More College (Kentucky).

HOPE'S MIAA TOURNAMENT HISTORY

The Flying Dutch are 51-12 all-time in MIAA Tournament play since the first event was held in 1993. Hope owns an 14-4 record in title games, including a 68-62 victory against Trine at DeVos
Fieldhouse last season.

HOPE-TRINE ALL-TIME HISTORY

This is the 38th Hope-Saint Marh's women's basketball game. The Flying Dutch lead the series, 33-4.

HOPE-TRINE POSTSEASON

The Flying Dutch are 5-0 against Trine in MIAA Tournament play, including title game victories in 2018 and 2016 (75-58 at DeVos
Fieldhouse).

MTI CENTER RECORD

The Flying Dutch are 2-1 in the short history of Trine's MTI Center. Hope won the first game in the facility, 57-46, on January 3, 2018 behind a team-high 13 points from Madison Geers and a game-high 15 rebounds from Olivia Voskuil. The Flying Dutch dropped the regular-season meeting this season, 78-72, on January 26, 2019 despite 27 points and 10 rebounds from Francesca Buchanan. Hope beat Saint Mary's in last night's semifinal, 75-36.
