Men's Tennis Edged By Grinnell, Loses To D-I College Of Charleston

The Hope College men's tennis team fell to Grinnell College (Iowa), 5-4, and NCAA Division I College of Charleston (S.C.), 7-0 on Thursday in Orlando, Florida.

The Flying Dutchmen, who are 4-5 overall, conclude their spring break trip on Saturday, March 23 with a non-league match against Luther College (Iowa).

Against Grinnell, Hope won four singles matches.

At No. 1 singles, senior Mark VanderStoep of Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa) defeated Bowen Mince, 6-3, 6-1.

At No. 2 singles, senior Tim Roe of Bakersfield, California (Frontier), beat Zach Lane, 7-5, 6-0.

At No. 5 singles, junior Alec Berrodin, pictured, of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Forest Hills Northern) topped Jack Lunn, 2-6, 6-2, 10-8.

At No. 6 singles, senior Christian Rhoades of Holland, MIchigan (Holland Christian) edged George Kaslow, 6-2, 2-6, 10-6.

Against Charleston, VanderStoep and junior Danny Kroeze of Holland, Michigan (Holland Christian) came the closest to earning a point but fell in a tiebreaker at No. 1 doubles, 7-6 (3).
