Men's Tennis Opens MIAA Play By Sweeping Olivet

The Hope College men's tennis team enjoyed a sunny afternoon outdoors and cruised to a 9-0 win against Olivet College in its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association opener.

The Flying Dutchmen improved to 5-7 overall by winning five singles matches and two doubles matches at VandePoel-Heeringa Stadium Courts. The other two points came on forfeits.

At No. 1 singles, senior Tim Roe of Bakersfield, California (Frontier HS) defeated Benjamin Borrow, 6-1, 6-0.

At No. 2 singles, senior Michael Kiley of Muskegon, Michigan (Mona Shores), pictured, swept Tyler Nobel, 6-0, 6-0.

At No. 3 singles, junior Danny Kroeze of Holland, Michigan (Holland Christian) downed Donald Doyle, 6-0, 6-0.

At No. 4 singles, sophomore Carter Smiley of Minnetonka, Minnesota (Minnetonka) beat Austin Briggs, 6-0, 6-0.

At No. 5 singles, sophomore David Bacon of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Forest Hills Northern) topped Kayleb Bradley, 6-0, 6-1.

At No. 1 doubles, Roe and senior Justin Folkert of Hamilton, Michigan (Hamilton) teamed for a 8-0 victory against Morrow and Doyle.

At No. 2 doubles, junior Alec Berrodin of Grand Rapids, Michigan (Forest Hills Northern) and senior Christian Rhoades of Holland, Michigan (Holland Christian) paired for an 8-1 victory against Nobel and Briggs.

Hope's next match is Friday, April 5 at Adrian College.
