2019 HOPEYs Nominees: Female Newcomer of the Year

Presented to a freshman or transfer that made a significant impact within his or her sport in a given year.

* McKenna Otto, Volleyball – In her rookie season for Hope, Otto was named the MIAA Volleyball Freshmen of the Year and a first team All-MIAA member. A middle hitter, she led the team with 3.16 kills per set during league matches. Otto had the fourth-best hitting percentage against MIAA foes at .344. She also earned AVCA First Team All-Region honors on the year.

* Madison Micho, Women's Lacrosse – During the 2018 season, Micho was named to the All-MIAA Second Team as a freshman. She started every game as a midfielder on the center circle draw team and set game records for gaining possessions off of the draw in games against Kalamazoo, Trine, and Calvin. Micho finished the season with an all-time individual season record total of 54 draw control possessions and was a key contributor to the team's all-season record total of 205.

* Megan Radaz, Women's Golf – In her first year competing for the Flying Dutch, Radaz improved consistently throughout the fall season and ended the year with the fourth lowest average on the team. Hope finished in second place in the league and will compete for the MIAA Tournament championship this spring.

* Sydney Muller, Women's Basketball – During her first season with the Flying Dutch, Muller started 28 of 29 games. She averaged seven points per game with three rebounds. Muller shot 41-percent from the three-point line and finished the season shooting 82-percent from the free throw line. The Flying Dutch finished with a 25-4 record, ranked 14th by D3hoops.com.

* Allison Eppinga, Women's Swimming & Diving – A junior transfer, Eppinga was a member of three winning relays at the 2019 MIAA Swimming & Diving Championships (200 Medley Relay, 400 Medley Relay and 400 Freesyle Relay.) She was also a championship finalist in three individual events as she finished second in the 100-yard freestyle, third in the 50-yard freestyle, and fifth in the 100-yard backstroke. Eppinga was named to the All-MIAA team.

* Savannah Dixon, Softball – As a freshman, Dixon started every game at shortstop for the Flying Dutch in 2018. She finished the year with a batting average of .304, and hit 10 doubles, four triples, three homeruns, and compiled a slugging percentage of .504. Dixon committed only five errors in 124 chances defensively at shortstop.

* Gretchen Koster, Women's Track & Field – Koster was one of the top throwers in the MIAA during her freshman season in 2018. She placed second in the discus throw and eighth in the shotput to score nine total points for Hope. The Flying Dutch won the 2018 MIAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships by a total of 4.5 points.
