Mitchel Achien'g Claims Two Top-Ten Finishes at GVSU

Mitchel Achien'g had two individual top-ten finishes this weekend at Grand Valley State University's Al Owens Classic.

The junior from Nairobi, Kenya (Kisumu) claimed a seventh-place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 9.77 meters. She also took ninth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.75.

Achieng was also the anchor for Hope's 4x100 meter relay team, which secured a sixth-place finish overall. Her teammates were Hannah Huizen of Jenison, Michigan (Jenison) Allison VanderStoep of Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa), and Brenna Bastien of West Olive, Michigan (Allendale).

Hope's Hannah Kenney of Grand Haven, Michigan (Grand Haven) secured a seventh-place finish in the 3000-meter steeplechase with at time of 11:47.90.

Senior Avery Lowe of North Muskegon, Michigan (North Muskegon) placed ninth in the 5000-meter run, clocking at time of 19:00.70.

Emma Johnson of Wentzville, Missouri (Timberland) took tenth in pole vault with a vault of 2.95 m.

The Flying Dutchmen are in action next on Friday and Saturday, April 26 and 27 at the Calvin Invitational. Start times both days is 1 p.m.
