Baseball Spring Trip — Five pitchers combined to throw two no-hitters while the Hope College baseball team was on its spring-break swing in 2019. It was the first-time ever the Flying Dutchmen recorded two no-hitters in one season. Sean Hoey, Matt Van Dyken and Max Gaishin blanked Clarkson University (N.Y), 11-0, and then five days later, Keaton Hamilton and CJ Otteman held Minnesota-Morris hitless in a 6-2 Hope win. The Flying Dutchmen went 9-0 to start their season "down south."
Women's Track & Field at 2020 MIAA Indoor Championship — After losing the MIAA Indoor Championship by 14 points in 2019, the Hope College women's track and field team rebounded in a huge way in 2020 and delivered a dominating performance. The Flying Dutch won the 2020 MIAA Indoor Championships by more than 75 points in front of second-place Albion, a significant margin in track and field. Hope track and field athletes scored in every event but one in the meet. In six of the 14 individual events, the maximum of four athletes scored for the Flying Dutch. In four other events, three Hope athletes scored points. While having five individual wins, Hope's two relay teams — distance medley and 4x400 — took first and second place, respectively.
Women's Lacrosse vs. Saint Mary's — The Hope College women's lacrosse team became the first No. 4 seed in MIAA Women's Lacrosse Tournament history to win a semifinal match with a 13-12 victory at top-seeded Saint Mary's College on May 1, 2019. Sophomore midfielder Carly Pieri scored the winning goal with 52 seconds remaining. The Flying Dutch advanced to the MIAA tournament final for the second time in team history by avenging a 22-8 regular-season loss to Saint Mary's.
Men's Golf at NCAA Division III Championship — At the 2019 NCAA Division III Championship, the Hope College men's golf team finished ninth place out of 42 teams. Led by national runner-up Josh Gibson, the Flying Dutchmen shot a final-round 296 at Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Kentucky for a four-day total of 1,207 (55-over-par). It was the third-lowest round of the last day and the Flying Dutchmen's best of the tournament. The Hope team moved upward each day of the four-day tournament, going from 14th to 11th to 10th to, finally, ninth place.
Women's Basketball vs. Illinois Wesleyan — Against Illinois Wesleyan University in the second round of the 2020 NCAA Division III Tournament, the No.1 and undefeated Hope College women's basketball team was in unfamiliar territory. Down nine points with 4:15 left in the game, the Flying Dutch dug deep and went on a 14-2 run to win the game, 72-69. Kenedy Schoonveld also provided a critical block to thwart a IWU three-point shot as time expired. "You could feel DeVos shaking from the noise during those last four minutes," said Schoonveld.
Volleyball vs. Calvin — The then-No. 20-ranked Hope College volleyball team dominated second-ranked Calvin University on Friday, October 25 and posted a 25-18, 25-18, 11-25, 25-20 victory on the Knights home court. The Flying Dutch started strong in the three sets they won — jumping ahead 7-1 in the first set, 7-3 in the second set and 7-2 in the fourth set. In the win, the Flying Dutch flipped the script from a 25-12, 25-22, 25-23 loss to Calvin on September 28 at DeVos Fieldhouse. Hope totaled 22 blocks in the rematch compared to seven earlier.
Football vs. Defiance — The Hope College football team broke a 100-year-old school record for points in a game against Defiance College (Ohio) in an 80-6 victory at Smith Stadium in the 54th annual Community Day game. The Flying Dutchmen outgained Defiance by a 472-228 margin. Hope passed for 297 yards and rushed for 175. The Flying Dutchmen defense picked off five Defiance passes, recovered two fumbles and recorded six sacks.
