2020 HOPEYs Nominees: Exceptional Performance in a Team Sport

Lauren Newman, Women's Basketball — In the game at Albion, Newman scored a career-high 25 points while making the most three-pointers (6) in her Hope career. She played 31 minutes and also led the defensive effort for the Flying Dutch as they held the Britons to 38 points. This was a key win for Hope in their pursuit of the MIAA Championship. 

Kam Miller, Baseball — In the semifinal game of the 2019 MIAA Tournament, Miller pitched a nine-inning complete game shutout against Alma. This outstanding performance helped the Flying Dutchmen advance to the championship game of the tournament. 

Christian Bos, Football — Bos recorded eight catches for career-high 162 receiving yards and two touchdowns in the game against Aurora. The 23- and 80-yard scores from Bos helped the Flying Dutchmen take to a 20-0 halftime lead. Hope won the game, 34-32.   

Brayden Blackburn, Men's Lacrosse — During his freshman season, Blackburn scored the go-ahead goal for Hope in the 2019 MIAA Tournament championship game against Albion. He also had four ground balls, caused two turnovers, and had significant defensive stops in the game to help secure the 6-5 victory over Albion. 

Gabbi Vachon, Volleyball — In the match against Elmhurst, Vachon set a team record with 31 digs. Two Flying Dutch players shared the previous record of 29. She was a key to the team's defensive efforts as Hope beat Elmhurst 25-23, 25-17, 25-16. 

Preston Granger, Men's Basketball — Granger scored a career-high 40 points against Alma. He became the fourth Flying Dutchmen player in history to reach the 40-point mark at DeVos Fieldhouse. For the game, Granger was 14-for-23 from the field and 12-for-18 from the free throw line in the MIAA match-up.
