2020 HOPEYs Nominees: Female Newcomer of the Year

Kaelin Callow, Softball — As a freshman, Callow started every game at first base for the Flying Dutch in 2019. Hitting in the number four spot of the line-up, Callow finished the season with a batting average of .341 with 11 doubles, one triple, and two home runs.  She was second on the team in RBI's with 30, and scored 22 runs. Callow also drew seven walks, was 4-for-6 in stolen bases, and had zero errors on the year defensively in 274 chances.  

Sydney Jackson, Women's Tennis — In her first year competing for Hope, Jackson finished the 2019 season with a 23-2 record at number three singles and a 21-8 record at number two doubles. She did not lose a league match for the Flying Dutch in either singles or doubles and earned All-MIAA First Team honors. Jackson was also named the 2019 NCAA Division III Central Region Rookie of the Year.  

Grace VanDellen, Women's Golf — As a freshman, VanDellen started in every match for the Flying Dutch. Her stroke average for the season of 84 was the lowest average of all freshmen in the MIAA. VanDellen was named to the All-MIAA Second Team.

Ana Tucker, Women's Cross Country and Women's Track & Field — In her first collegiate cross country season, Tucker earned NCAA First Team All-American honors. She ran a personal best time of 22:00.1 in the 6K course at the 2019 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships and was the second fastest freshman in the race. Tucker was also named the Division III National Runner of the Week, received Great Lakes All-Region honors and was named to the All-MIAA team. Additionally, Tucker qualified for the 2020 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships in the 3,000-meter run where she was the fastest freshman and eighth seed overall. This earned her All-Great Lakes Region honors. She is the first freshman from Hope to ever qualify for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships. 

Jenna Breuker, Women's Track & Field — As a freshmen, Breuker placed fourth in the shot put and third in the hammer throw at the 2019 MIAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. She followed up her performance last spring with a second place finish and new school record in the shot put at the 2020 MIAA Indoor Track & Field Championships.
