Joey Merucci, Baseball — During his freshman season, Merucci only had 10 plate appearances and did not start a game. As a sophomore in 2019, he started all 40 games for the Flying Dutchmen at third base. Merucci finished the season with a batting average of .341 which was fourth on the team. He also finished fifth on the team in doubles.
Korey Derr, Men's Track & Field — Derr progressed from being a great sprinter to an exceptional sprinter during his senior season. He was one of the top sprinters in the league as he finished in second in the 60-meter dash at the 2020 MIAA Indoor Track & Field Championship. Derr received All-Great Lakes Region honors and was recognized as one of the top five sprinters in the region.
Dominick Byrne, Men's Soccer — After not making the team his freshman year and having a solid sophomore year, Byrne had a breakout season for the Flying Dutchmen this year. He started every game at center back for the second half of the year and anchored Hope's back line. Byrne was a key player for the Flying Dutchmen in their first NCAA Tournament game in seven years.
Kenyea Houston, Football — Recruited as a linebacker, Houston started all 11 games for the Flying Dutchmen as a running back. This season, he had 158 attempts for 1,067 yards and scored 11 touchdowns. He averaged 6.6 yards per carry. Houston received All-MIAA First Team honors.
Andrew Pavey, Men's Lacrosse — Pavey had a breakthrough season in 2019 for the Flying Dutchmen. With his hard work, he had the chance to deliver in a big moment as Pavey scored the game-winning goal in overtime against Albion. This victory clinched the MIAA Championship for Hope.
