Jacob Babb, Football — In the 2018 season, Babb suffered a severe shoulder separation in the third game of the season that required extensive surgery. He made an impressive comeback in the 2019 season as he led the Flying Dutchmen in sacks and was the MIAA Player of the Week after a 51-0 win at Trine. Babb also earned All-MIAA First Team honors.
Owen Ljung, Men's Track & Field — Due to injuries in his final season for Hope, Ljung was unable to compete until the MIAA Indoor Track & Field Championships. He raced in the 800-meter run with no seed time from the slowest heat, but ran an excellent time to win and be MIAA Champion in the event by almost a full second in 1:56.83. He received All-MIAA and All-Great Lakes Region honors.
Rebecca Duran, Women's Cross Country — After spending spring 2019 off-campus, Duran returned to the team this past fall to earn her first spot on the varsity team. She was named to the All-MIAA Second Team for her performance at the MIAA Cross Country Championships and finished third for Hope at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships.
Jordan Hooker, Men's Soccer — Hooker missed most of 2017 with a broken foot and then played sparingly in 2018 off the bench as a forward. In Spring 2019, Hooker embraced a complete position change as he transitioned from forward to center back for the Flying Dutchmen. He broke through in this new role and started all 21 games and led the team in minutes played this season. Hooker ended the season named to the All-MIAA First Team.
Dan Clyde, Men's Swimming & Diving — Over the past year Clyde battled a collapsed lung and subsequent surgery, a concussion, a dislocated elbow and fractured bone, diagnosis of vasovagal syncope and narcolepsy, as well as ongoing back pains. Despite the adversity, Clyde won three events and set three school records for the Flying Dutchmen at the MIAA Swimming & Diving Championships. He was a member of the 800-yard freestyle relay that broke a team and MIAA record and qualified for the NCAA Championships. In victory of the 400-yard medley relay, Clyde swam the second fastest butterfly split in Hope history. He also won the 200-yard individual medley and received All-MIAA First Team honors.
Hayley Scollard, Women's Track & Field — Scollard sprained her ankle during the 2019 indoor track & field season at Hope and could not compete in the MIAA Championship. She worked hard to rehabilitate her ankle and regain strength for the outdoor season. At the 2019 MIAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Scollard won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:08.36. She received All-MIAA honors.
