The Hope College ice hockey team remains undefeated, now with a 7-0 record, after defeating The University of Michigan this weekend in American Collegiate Hockey Association play, 5-4 in overtime and 6-3.
Friday's game brought all of the excitement as the Flying Dutch took the win in overtime. Sophomore Jake Adams and junior Mason Weiss netted the first two goals for Hope during the first forty
minutes of action. Assists came from sophomore Ashton Bol on the Adams goal. After two periods of play, the Wolverines held a 3-2 lead after two unanswered goals.
Senior Max Mones sent one home after a pass from sophomore Luke McKinch, shortly before Mones would grab an assist on a Allan Hirsch goal to give the Flying Dutch a 4-3 lead. Halfway through the third period, Michigan answered back to tie the game. Junior Gabe Gunneson, pictured right, would be the OT goal scorer with a minute remaining in the extra period of hockey to rocket the blue and orange to victory. Senior Lukas Schut was in net for the huge win.
Saturday's matchup at Griff's Icehouse West was more heavily favored towards the home team, as the Flying Dutch picked up a 6-3 win. Senior Ethan Pinto, junior Kevin Healy, Gunneson (2), Bol, and Weiss were the game two's goal scorers. Senior Brendan Sanders, junior Logan Faustyn (2), Adams (2), Weiss, Bol, and Hirsch all tallied assists in the home game. Schut returned in net, stopping 17 of 20 shots on goal.
