Hope College senior point guard Kasey DeSmit is the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week for the first time.
The physical education major from Hudsonville, Michigan (Hudsonville HS) led the top-ranked Flying Dutch to back-to-back wins over the weekend that extended their win streak to 49 games and was chosen as the MVP of the Hope Tournament.
In Saturday's 83-55 victory against No. 21 ranked Baldwin Wallace (Ohio), DeWitt recorded nine points on three 3-pointers, two assists and one steal in 21 minutes.
In Friday's 94-56 victory against Finlandia University, DeSmit totaled nine points on three 3-pointers, three steals and one assist.
For the week, DeSmit shot 50.0 percent from 3-point range and 42.9 percent from the field.
