Women's Basketball MIAA Tournament Game Notes; First Round vs. Kalamazoo

The top-ranked Hope College women's basketball team is seeking its 16th MIAA Tournament championship this week. The Flying Dutch have advanced to the MIAA Tournament final 19 times, including the past three seasons in a row.

The winner of the Hope-Kalamazoo game advances to face either fourth-seeded Alma College or fifth-seeded Calvin University in the semifinals on Wednesday, March 3 at 7:30 pm.

The Flying Dutch are 52-12 all-time in MIAA Tournament games and 7-0 all-time against Kalamazoo in postseason history. This is Hope's MIAA Tournament game vs. the Hornets since a 2015 semifinal that the Flying Dutch won, 62-48, at DeVos Fieldhouse.

Hope's MIAA Tournament History

Hope enters the MIAA Tournament on a 42-game winning streak that dates back to the first game of the 2019-20 season. The win streak is the ninth-longest in Division III women's basketball history and the second-longest in program history. Hope won 44 games in a row over two seasons from December 3, 2005, through January 13, 2007.

The Flying Dutch's last loss happened 730 days ago — on March 2, 2019, with a 79-49 loss at Wartburg College (Iowa) in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Hope has been ranked No. 1 in the D3hoops.com poll all season. The Flying Dutch have held the top spot since the final poll of the 2019-20 season.

The Flying Dutch have hit the century mark in scoring three times this season for the second time in program history. Hope joins the 2015-16 team in accomplishing the feat.

Hope is 28-0 all-time when scoring 100 or more points. The Flying Dutch's highest-scoring game all-time came in 126-56 at North Central (Illinois) during the 2013-14 season.

The Flying Dutch's highest-scoring game in the MIAA Tournament came in 2011 with a 103-42 first-round victory against Adrian at DeVos Fieldhouse.

Senior guard Kenedy Schoonveld (Zeeland, Michigan/Holland Christian) needs 12 points to pass Amy Baltmanis '03 Edwards for 10th place all-time on Hope's scoring leaders. Schoonveld has 1,090 points in 102 games. Amanda Kerkstra '03 Williams is the Flying Dutch's all-time leading scorer with 1,568 points in 107 games.

Head coach Brian Morehouse has a career record of 624-90 overall record, including a 48-9 mark in MIAA Tournament games. He is the fastest basketball coach to reach 600 wins in NCAA history, at any level.
