Runners Nick Hoffman and Ana Tucker headline a distinguished group of 10 Hope College indoor track and field student-athletes who earned All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association honors this season.
MIAA coaches voted Hoffman and Tucker as the league's Most Valuable Indoor Track Athletes. All-MIAA honors are given to indoor event champions at the annual league meet.
Hoffman and Tucker both won the 1-mile and 3,000-meter runs in record-setting fashion at the 2021 MIAA Indoor Championships last weekend. The Hope women's team repeated as league champion, while the men's team posted its highest finish with a second-place tie.
Hoffman clocked an MIAA record 1-mile time of 4 minutes, 13.62 seconds. His MIAA record run in the 3,000 meters was 8:39.37.
The junior public accounting major from Holland, Michigan (Holland HS) is the Flying Dutchmen's first MIAA indoor champion in both events.
Tucker recorded MIAA-record times in the 1 mile of 4:57.92 and the 3,000 meters of 9:56.70.
The sophomore exercise science major is from Midland, Michigan (H.H. Dow).
Tucker was joined on the All-MIAA team by eight teammates.
Claire Benedict, Hannah Kenny, Jacinda Cole, and Grace Behrens claimed the MIAA title in the 4x400 medley relay with a run of 4:08.82.
Behrens is a sophomore environmental science major from Mishawaka, Indiana (Trinity). Benedict is a sophomore chemistry and Spanish double major from Ada, Michigan (Forest Hills Eastern). Cole is a senior English education major from Holland, Michigan (West Ottawa). Kenny is a senior Spanish and social work major from Grand Haven, Michigan (Grand Haven).
Rebecca Markham, Samantha Schermerhorn, Jessie Schamanek, and Anna Mason captured an MIAA title in the distance medley with a time of 12:58.21.
Markham is a freshman from Hoffman Estates, Illinois (William Fremd). Mason is a sophomore accounting major from Zeeland, Michigan (Libertas Christian). Schamanek is a freshman from Rochester, Michigan (Stoney Creek). Schermerhorn is a business and public accounting major from Traverse City, Michigan (West).
"It was a spectacular weekend for Hope College Track and Field," head coach Kevin Cole said. "I'm proud of Nick and Ana and both of the women's relay teams for dominating the competition in their events and being named All-MIAA.
"This is a great honor but the impressive team finishes were also a true team effort. I applaud all the members who scored points in so many events and encouraged and cheered for their teammates during this strange season."
