The Flying Dutch remain undefeated at 5-0 while the Thunder falls to 3-2.
Hope's win counts as a non-conference victory. League play begins on Wednesday, March 24 for the MIAA.
Owning a commanding lead in draw controls, 22-12, Hope was able to dedicate much of the offensive momentum for most of the game. The Flying Dutch jumped out to a quick 3-0 after the first three minutes of play and went on another three-goal spree late in first half to head into halftime leading, 8-4.
During an eight-minute period in the second half, from 25:52 to 17:52, Hope showed the range of its offensive depth by going on a run of five unanswered goals scored by five different Flying Dutch players: Madison McCreery, Paige Wilmer, Sophie Ackerman, Paige Rosenbrook, and Salazar.
By then the score was 14-6, and Hope cruised the rest of the way to the final tally.
Wilmer, a senior midfielder from Columbus, Ohio (Upper Arlington HS), accounted for half of Hope's draw controls with 11. She also scored four times.
Senior goalie Laurel Frederickson of Alto (Lowell HS) made 13 saves and led Hope with five groundballs. Freshman midfielder Molly Frederickson of Alto (Lowell HS) was the Flying Dutch's second-leading groundball-getter with three.
Hope's game against Alma College on Saturday, March 13 is canceled due to MIAA COVID protocols.
The Flying Dutch are scheduled to play next on Saturday, March 20 at Kalamazoo College. Game time is 1 p.m.
