Women's Golf Claims Third Place at Last MIAA Jamboree, Finishes Second in Final Standings

Abigail Meder poses for a headshot photo Megan Jenkinson poses for a headshot photo The Hope College women's golf team concluded its 2021 spring season with a third-place finish in the final MIAA Jamboree on Saturday at Thornapple Pointe Golf Course in Grand Rapids, Michigan. 

Saint Mary's College won the event with a 313 while Calvin University was second with 321.

Tied with the Belle's for first place overeall headed into the last round, the Flying Dutch's Saturday total of 336 put them in second place in the final league standings with 1,628 strokes.

Saint Mary's is this spring's MIAA champion as the Belles totaled 1,610 strokes over five official MIAA Jamborees. Calvin finished in third with 1,642 strokes.

Senior Abigail Meder of Lansing, Michigan (Lansing Catholic Central HS) led Hope by carding an 82, good for a tie for ninth place individually. 

Sophomore Grace VanDellen (Oxford, Mich./Lutheran Northwest) and junior Megan Jenkinson (Traverse City, Mich./Traverse City West) were Hope's next best scorers on Saturday. They each fired rounds of 83.

Meder, pictured right, and Jenkinson, pictured left, were both named to the All-MIAA First Team after the final round as they averaged 79.6 strokes and 81.2 strokes, respectively, on the season.

Finishing out scores for Hope on Saturday were senior Jordyn Rioux (Farmington, Mich./Livonia Ladywood) who shot an 88, and sophomore Rita Cheney (Mason, Mich./Mason) who had a 101.

Rioux and VanDellen were also honored with All-MIAA Second Team awards. Rioux finished her season with a 82.4 stroke average while VanDellen's was 83.3.
