The Hope College men's soccer team lost to Ohio Wesleyan University, 2-1, in Friday's season opener on Community Appreciation Night at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.

In the rematch of 2019 NCAA Division III Tournament first-round opponents, Ohio Wesleyan struck first again and never trailed.

The Flying Dutchmen scored in the 70th minute.

Sophomore midfielder Matt Wimmer (Farmington Hills, Michigan / Detroit Jesuit HS), pictured, headed in a corner kick for his second career goal.

Sophomore midfielder Ethan Jansen (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Forest Hills Central) registered the assist.

Ohio Wesleyan took the lead with goals in the 30th and the 55th minute.

Hope outshot Ohio Wesleyan, 16-11. Each team had six corner kicks.

The Flying Dutchmen's next game is Saturday, Sept. 4 against Ohio Northern University at 6 p.m. at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.
