Women's Soccer Plays Trine to a 1-1 Draw

In a matchup with a fellow MIAA title contender, the Hope College women's soccer team earned a 1-1 draw at Trine University on Saturday.

The Flying Dutch are now 5-2-2 overall and 1-0-1 in league matches. Trine (5-3-2 overall) holds the same MIAA record Calvin University and Alma College are both 1-0 in league play.

Sophomore Breck McCloskey (Ada, Michigan / Forest Hills Eastern HS) scored her third goal of the season for Hope.

McCloskey's unassisted tally put the Flying Dutch ahead 1-0 with 4 minutes, 11 seconds left in the first half.

Hope held the lead deep into the second half before Trine struck on Abby Robison's fourth goal of the season with 14:41 remaining in regulation.

The score remained deadlocked at the end of regulation. Prior to this season, NCAA rules eliminated overtime during regular-season play.

The Flying Dutch outshot Trine by an 11-5 margin, but each team generated only three shots on goal.

Junior Parker Hutchinson (Ada, Michigan / Forest Hills Northern) made two saves for Hope.

The Flying Dutch's next game is Tuesday, Oct. 4, at 7 p.m. at Kalamazoo College.
