Women's Soccer Powers Past Kalamazoo on the Road

Freshman Liz Bellinger started off the Hope College women's soccer contest on Tuesday on the right foot. Junior Natalie Hammer then made sure the Flying Dutch completed their mission.

Bellinger's first-half goal and Hammer's two second-half goals propelled a 3-0 victory at Kalamazoo College.

Hope improved to a 6-2-2 overall record and a 2-0-1 mark in MIAA play heading into a showdown against ninth-ranked and unbeaten Calvin University on Saturday, Oct. 8, at noon at Van Andel Soccer Stadium. It is Senior Day for Hope.

Bellinger (Williamston, Michigan / Williamston HS) struck for her third goal of the season with 19 minutes, 37 seconds remaining in the first half.

Bellinger buried a shot into the lower right-hand corner of the goal from the top of the box off an assist from freshman Hayley Flynn (Petoskey, Michigan / Petoskey). It was Flynn's first assist.

Kalamazoo (4-4-2, 1-2-0 MIAA) remained within striking distance until the game's final nine minutes.

Hammer (Rockford, Michigan / Rockford) pounced on a turnover for a 2-0 Hope lead with 8:36 remaining.

Two minutes and 20 seconds later, Hammer secured her second career multi-goal game and her fourth goal of the season by burying a shot from the top left corner of the box. Hammer last scored twice in a game during a 3-0 win against Alma College on April 9, 2021, at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.

Freshman Olivia Dieppa (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville) registered her second assist of the season.

Hope outshot Kalamazoo, 17-6, including a 13-4 edge after halftime.

The Flying Dutch posted their fourth shutout of the season as junior Parker Hutchinson (Ada, Michigan / Forest Hills Northern) totaled four saves.
