The Hope College women's golf team withstood the cold throughout day one of MIAA Fall Finish play, finishing fifth on Friday in Battle Creek.
The Flying Dutch remain in third place overall out of nine teams with 1663 total strokes. Adrian College holds tight to first place with 1597 points and Saint Mary's is in second with 1618.Â
The top four finishers in the fall standings qualifies for the MIAA's NCAA Division III Championships qualifier next spring.
On Friday, senior Grace VanDellen (Oxford, Michigan / Lutheran Northwest HS) tied for ninth place after shooting an 83 at Bedford Valley Country Club, leading all Hope golfers.Â
Freshman Caydee Constant (Grand Haven, Michigan / Grand Haven) played as an individual in Friday's contest and finished with an 83 as well.Â
Junior Emlin Munch (Traverse City, Michigan / Central) fired a first round score of 84 while Abby Fansler (Muskegon, Michigan / Reeths-Puffer) carded a 97 for the day.Â
Lauren Sass (Bloomfield Hills, Michigan / Marian) marked a score of 88, matching the score of senior Rita Cheney (Mason, Michigan / Mason).Â
Abby Derocher (Farmington, Michigan / Farmington North)Â also playing as an individual, marked a 93 at Bedford Valley Country Club.Â
The Flying Dutch return to finish out play in day two of the MIAA Fall Finish on Saturday, October 8, teeing off at 10 a.m.
