ACHA Hockey Finishes Regular Season With 27 Straight Wins, Heads To MCHC Playoffs

The Hope College men's ACHA hockey team ended the 2021-22 season with a 27-0 record, 19-0 in conference play. Next up? The 2022 Michigan Collegiate Hockey Conference Tournament, as the Flying Dutchmen snagged a quarterfinals bye. Lucas Barer poses for a headshot photo

In the sweep of Indiana University, Hope picked up 8-2 and 9-1 dominant wins. Friday's game saw five first period goals to start things off strong for the defending National Champions. Senior Brad Baysore (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian HS) put up three points (2g, 1a) in the big win, while junior Lucas Barber (1g, 2a), pictured right, and sophomore Ashton Bol (2g, 1a) also recorded three points. Max Mones, the senior from Portage, Michigan (Portage Central) had a big night tallying four points (1g, 4a). Kevin Healy (Rockford, Michigan / Rockford) and Brendan Sanders (Midland, Michigan / Herbert Henry Dow) would also find the back of the net each grabbing a single goal towards the eight Hope College goals. 

Assists came from Niko Stamas, Casen Faustyn (2), Nolan Convertini, Allan Hirsch, and Ethan Pinto. Freshman Maclane Schick (Kohler, Wisconsin / Kohler) grabbed the win in net for the Flying Dutchmen, stopping 27 of 29 shots on goal. In the offensive zone, Hope put up 43 total shots on the Indiana goaltender. 

Saturday saw another big win to end the regular season, 9-1, with eight different goal scorers. 

Senior Cole Stenstrom (Caledonia, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian) pocketed two goals for Hope, while Ryan Endres (Grand Rapids, Michigan / Forest Hills Eastern), Colin Stecco (1g, 1a), Convertini, Sanders, Barber (1g, 2a), Mones (1g,1a), and Healy also recorded goals.

A total of 15 assists came from ten different skaters including Logan Faustyn, Nolan Holtrop (2a), Mason Weiss, Hogan Wierda, Stamas (2a), Hirsch (3a), and Pinto. Senior Lukas Schut (Grand Rapids, Michigan / East Grand Rapids) was in net for game two, stopping 19 of 20 shots faced, while the Flying Dutchmen fired off 48 shots in the offensive zone. 

Hope College moves on to the MCHC Tournament with a bye for their first game and takes the ice on Saturday, Feb. 19 with a matchup against the lowest-seed-winner from Friday night's game. Puck drop is set for 8:30 p.m. for the Flying Dutchmen.
