Women's Track/Field Takes Home 22 Top Ten Finishes At GVSU Tune Up Meet

The Hope College women's track and field team participated in the non-scoring Grand Valley State University Tune-Up meet on Friday. The Flying Dutch racked up 22 top ten finishes, 11 top five finishes and scored two first place finishes.

The 200 meters and the 4x400 relay were the two events where Hope took first place for the women. Junior Grace Behrens (Mishawaka, IN / Trinity School at Greenlawn HS) pictured right, ran a time of 26.36 in the 200 meters race to snag the top spot, while the 4x400 relay team of Madeline Moore, Julie Timperman, Hayley Scollard, and Behrens out ran the rest of the competition for first place after a time of 4:16.63

Moore (Hillsdale, MI / Hillsdale), as well as taking home the top spot with the relay team, also grabbed 4th place in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:02.76. Timperman also competed in the 400 meters, grabbing 9th with a time of 1:03.28.

In the 60 meter hurdles, Hope College took spots two through four as Scollard (2nd; 10.59), Lily Kueber (3rd; 10.96), and Merci Fitz (4th; 11.70) all placed in the top five.

The triple jump also saw three top five placements for the Flying Dutch. Sophomore Taylor Novotny (Batavia, Illinois / Batavia) grabbed third place with a 10.05 meter (32'11.75") jump, junior Kyria Gowman (Livonia, Michigan / Adlai E Stevenson) took home fourth place with a 9.03 meter (29' 7.5") jump, and senior Tara Haan (McBain, Michigan / Northern Michigan Christian) snagged the fifth place spot with a jump distance of 8.89 meters (29'2").

Haan also placed fifth in the long jump for Hope with a distance of 4.54 meters (14'10.75").

Allison Schram, the freshman from Fenton, Michigan (Hartland) would record a high jump distance of 1.55 meters (5'1") for a fifth place finish.
