The Hope College women's lacrosse team had nine different players fuel its historic 21-1 win over the University of Dallas on Friday.
The final spring break game was the 10th time in Hope College history that at least 20 goals were tallied in a single game.
The Flying Dutch also matched their season-high goals in a game with their 21 put in against the Crusaders, and improved to 5-3 on the season, heading home to Michigan 1-1 after their Texas business trip.
Hope never trailed, and the only goal allowed came within the third quarter. The final score marked a second historic moment in women's lacrosse history, as the Orange and Blue tied the school record for the least amount of goals allowed in a game. This one-goal-allowed game is the first since an 18-1 win over Alma College on April 24, 2019 at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.
Senior Madison Micho (Grand Rapids, Michigan / East Grand Rapids HS), pictured right, had a team-high six goals, two of which came a minute from each other to begin Hope's scoring. Micho also led the team in shots with seven.
Sophomore Sophie Ackerman (East Grand Rapids, Michigan / East Grand Rapids) and freshman Bella Lafranca (Caledonia, Michigan / Caledonia) each had a team-high four ground balls in the lopsided fifth win of the season for the Flying Dutch. Ackerman also tacked on a team-high four caused turnovers, five shots, and a goal and an assist. Lafranca fired off four shots among her two goals in the final game in Texas.
Freshman Ruthie Anderson (Lowell, Michigan / Lowell) piled on five points (4g, 1a) and contributed five shots during the double-digit win.
Four other players for Hope racked up four total points in the 21-1 win over Dallas; freshman Juli Kirkpatrick (Granger, Indiana / Penn) grabbed four assists, senior Madison McCreery (Rockford, Michigan / Rockford) tallied two goals and two assists, and sophomore Molly Frederickson (Alto, Michigan / Lowell) picked up four goals with six shots for Hope.
Hope finished the win with 25 ground balls compared to Dallas' 13. The Crusaders committed 15 turnovers, and the flying Dutch compiled 40 total shots on the Dallas goaltender.
Dallas dropped to 1-5 after the loss to the Flying Dutchmen.
Hope returns home for a game against Mount Union University on Saturday, April 2, at Van Andel Soccer Stadium at 1 p.m.
