Baseball Lands Three on D3baseball.com All-Region Teams

Three members of the MIAA regular-season champion Hope College baseball team have earned all-region honors from D3baseball.com: center fielder Evan Maday, shortstop Brant Kym and starting pitcher Sean Hoey.

Maday is one of 14 first-team selections and one of three first-team outfielders in Region 7. Hoey and Kym are among 16 on Region 7's second team.

Head coach Stu Fritz was chosen as the D3baseball.com Region 7 Coach of the Year.

More than 1,000 student-athletes were nominated by sports information directors across the country. D3baseball.com staff selected the all-region teams.

Maday (Grand Rapids, Michigan / East Kentwood HS) recorded the top overall batting average among MIAA players this season with a career-best .436 clip in 38 games.

The fifth-year senior and the MIAA Position Player of the Year led the league with 11 home runs, finished second with 24 stolen bases, and tied for second with 47 RBIs.

A civil engineering major, Maday finished the season with a .991 fielding percentage after committing only one error in 110 chances.

Kym (Libertyville, Illinois / Libertyville) hit a career-best .468 in 28 games this season, including an MIAA-best .500 in league play. It marked the 18th time a Flying Dutchmen student-athlete completed a season as MIAA batting champion.

The fifth-year senior batted cleanup and collected a career-best 41 RBIs. The business and economics major joined Hoey and Maday as All-MIAA First Team honorees.

Hoey (Holland, Michigan / West Ottawa) set a school record for wins in a single season with a 9-0 record. 

The fifth-year senior and MIAA Pitcher of the Year topped the league in both earned run average at 3.18 and strikeouts with 80.

The integrated science group secondary education major started 12 games and threw a career-high 70 ⅔ innings.
