Women's Golf Tees Off Academic Year, Rolls Past Calvin

The Hope College women's golf team started off strong and true.

In the first athletic event of the 2022-23 academic year, the Flying Dutch downed Calvin University, 336-349, on Tuesday at Clearbrook Golf Club in Saugatuck.

Also, Hope's 'B' team topped the Knights 'B' team, 374-384.

Grace VanDellen claimed medalist honors for the Flying Dutch. The senior from Oxford, Michigan (Lutheran Northwest HS) fired a 6-over-par 78 to finish six strokes ahead of the 20-golfer field.

Senior Rita Cheney (Mason, Michigan / Mason) chipped in an 83.

Junior Abby Fansler (Muskegon, Michigan / Reeths-Puffer) carded an 86.

Sophomore Lauren Sass (Bloomfield Hills, Michigan / Marian) rounded out Hope's top scoring group with an 89.

Junior Abby Derocher (Farmington, Michigan / North Farmington) shot a 94.

Hope's 'B' team featured a pair of 90s from sophomore Sarah Owens (Charlotte, Michigan / Charlotte) and freshman Caydee Constant (Grand Haven, Michigan / Grand Haven).

The Flying Dutch also received a 95 from freshman Sammi Campbell (Grand Haven, Michigan / Grand Haven), a 99 from freshman Sara Muir (Ada, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian), and a 100 from sophomore Jordan Winters (New Carlisle, Indiana / New Prairie).
