Women's Golf Tied for Fourth after Opening Round of Olivet Tournament

Junior Emlin Munch and senior Grace VanDellen both carded 79s to lead the Hope College women's golf team during the first round of Olivet College's Kyle Campbell Memorial Invitational on Friday.

Munch (Traverse City, Michigan / Central HS) and VanDellen (Oxford, Michigan / Lutheran Northwest) are tied for fourth place individually after shooting 7-over-par at The Medalist Golf Club in Marshall, Michigan. They are five shots off the lead.

The Flying Dutch head into the final round of the 16-team event on Saturday, Sept. 10, at 8:30 a.m.in fourth place in the team standings. 

With a 336, Hope trails first-round leader Bethel University (Ind.) by 18 strokes. Ohio Northern is in second place at 327, while Westminster College (Pa.) is third at 332. Hope is one stroke ahead of Adrian College and two ahead of Calvin University.

Senior Rita Cheney (Mason, Michigan / Mason) chipped in 86 for the Flying Dutch.

The Flying Dutch also received a 91 from junior Abby Fansler (Muskegon, Michigan / Reeths Puffer) and a 92 from sophomore Lauren Sass (Bloomfield Hills, Michigan / Marian).
