Women's Golf Downs Calvin in Match Play

The Hope College women's golf team earned a 5 ½ to 2 ½ match play victory against Calvin University on Saturday.

The annual DAP Cup event honors Joan Stafford, the late wife of Flying Dutch head coach Greg Stafford.

Hope won five different flights.

Sophomore Lauren Sass (Bloomfield Hills, Michigan / Marian HS) topped Katherine Lamer 8 and 6.

Junior Abby Derocher (Farmington, Michigan / North) also won 8 and 6, defeating Gina Sonday.

Three Flying Dutch golfers each won 4 and 3

junior Abby Fansler (Muskegon, Michigan / Reeths-Puffer) vs. Lexa Herrema;
sophomore Sarah Owens (Charlotte, Michigan / Charlotte) vs. Grace Elfring;
freshman Sara Muir (Ada, Michigan / Grand Rapids Christian) vs. Anna Johnson.

Hope and Calvin split a point when junior Emlin Munch (Traverse City, Michigan / Central) finished all square against Kayla Adkins.

Calvin claimed full points with a 2 up win from Jericha Scharphorn vs. senior Rita Cheney (Mason, Michigan / Mason and 1 up win from Chandler Sjoerdsma vs. senior Grace VanDellen (Oxford, Michigan / Lutheran Northwest).

Hope next golfs at the MIAA Jamboree, hosted by Adrian College, on Wednesday, Sept. 21, at 1 p.m. at Tecumseh Golf Club in Tecumseh, Michigan.
