Four Claim MIAA Athlete of the Week Awards

Four from Hope College have been selected as MIAA Student-Athletes of the Week: senior Ellie Jankowski in women's cross country, Connor Vachon in men's cross country, Amanda Lopykinski in women's tennis and Tyler Stafford in men's tennis.

Jankowski is the MIAA Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week for the first time.

The senior from Granger, Indiana (Penn HS) led the Flying Dutch at the Wheaton College (Ill.) Gil Dodds Invitational on Saturday by clocking 6K time of 22 minutes, 19.6 seconds.

The business and communication major finished sixth out of 240 runners and helped eighth-ranked Hope place fourth out of 18 teams. The field featured four nationally ranked teams.

Vachon (Jenison, Michigan / Jenison) is the MIAA Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week for the first time.

The sophomore topped the Flying Dutch with a second-place effort at the Wheaton College (Ill.) Gil Dodds Invitational on Saturday.

The education major recorded an 8K time of 25:14.4 in a field of 243 runners. Hope placed third out of 17 teams and trailed only two nationally-ranked opponents.

Lopykinski (Lemont, Illinois / Lemont Township) is the MIAA Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week for the first time.

The freshman finished first in the A Singles Draw during her collegiate tournament at Hope on Friday and Saturday. Lopykinski won all four of her singles matches, including a 6-3, 3-6, 10-6 victory against teammate Sullivan Moran in the final. Lopykinski also teamed with Moran in doubles and went 2-1 before finishing runner-up in the A Doubles Draw.

Stafford (Grand Rapids, MIchigan / Grand Rapids Christian) is the MIAA Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week for the first time.

Last weekend, Stafford went 2-1 in singles play during Hope's fall tournament and reached the semifinals of the A Singles Draw. The economics major also reached the quarterfinals of the Men's A Doubles Draw with partner Matt Henkel and went 1-1 for the day.
