Volleyball Rides High at Cedar Point Trip, Finishes Tourney Undefeated

The Flying Dutch finished the Great Lakes Crossover at the Cedar Point Sports Center in Sandusky, Ohio, this weekend with a 4-0 record.

On Saturday, Hope first defeated Heidelberg University (Ohio) in five sets and before sweeping Bethany University (W.V.) in three sets.

On Friday, the Flying Dutch downed both Hiram College (Ohio) and Baldwin Wallace University (Ohio) in three sets.

This season, Hope returned only one starter — senior middle blocker Charlotte Brecht — from a MIAA championship team that placed ninth in the final American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III poll.

Freshman setter Lauren Lee (Plymouth, Michigan / Ann Arbor Skyline HS) totaled 148 assists over four matches, including 55 during a 25-18, 22-25, 25-13, 23-25, 15-7 victory against Heidelberg.

Sophomore outside hitter Annie Lockett (Mason, Ohio / William Mason) recorded 23 kills against Baldwin Wallace and a team-leading 58 kills for the tournament.

Brecht posted 34 kills. Senior outside hitter Emma Post (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonille) had 31.

Hope returns to action on Friday-Saturday, September 9-10, when the Flying Dutch serve as one of three hosts for the MIAA's crossover tournament with the North Coast Athletic Conference.
