ACHA Hockey Quiets the Thunder, Sweeps Weekend Series from Trine

For the fifth time this season, the Hope College ice hockey team allowed only a total of two goals and swept a two-game ACHA series.

The top-ranked Flying Dutchmen defeated Trine University, 5-1 and 8-1, on Friday and Saturday, respectively, and improved their record to 20-1 overall.

On Friday, Hope broke a 1-1 tie with three second-period goals. Lucas Barber struck first just 1 minute, 49 seconds into the period.

Mickey Vanantwerp followed up with 9:31 remaining. Austin Ieuter tacked on another goal 4 ½ minutes later.

The Flying Dutchmen outshot Trine by a 50-18 margin.

On Saturday at Trine, Nolan Holtrop recorded two goals to lead Hope.

Jake Adams and Luke McKinch each chipped in one goal and two assists.

Hope skates against Ferris State University on Friday, Jan. 27, at 7:30 p.m. on home ice at Griff's IceHouse West.

The final six games of the season will be against Michigan College Hockey Conference West Division opponents.

At 6-0, the Flying Dutchmen are the only West Division team without a loss. Grand Valley State University is 9-1.
